Students from between Year 9 and Year 12 will be attending, with varying levels of experience. No prior experience is necessary, though coaching up to World Schools level is provided where appropriate. Each student will be given a class suited to their age and experience and will receive a very high level of individual support and guidance from our team of mentors. Students will take part in seminars on aspects of debating, have supported preparation time then take part in at least four competitive debates over the course. A very good mentor:student ratio is maintained for all classes and individual feedback is given after each debate. Our mentors are experienced debate coaches drawn from the teaching profession as well as from the Oxford and Cambridge Unions. They are also chosen because they are approachable, friendly and good natured people. They will provide expert advice in a supportive context. Among the coaches this year are expected to be:
Lewis Iwu – current World University Debating champion
Debbie Newman – England Schools Debating coach since 2006
Tim Savin – Chair of Selectors, English-Speaking Union
